Heart Attack
November 27, 2013What Parents Need to Know about Pornography
November 28, 2013God has given me three essential purposes in this season of my life: (1) preaching and teaching; (2) consulting and coaching—helping pastors and their churches professionally and personally; and (3) building collaborative relationships between and among key leaders. My theme for this season in my life: Getting pastors into relationships with one another, and churches together leading efforts to transform our communities.
Preaching
Public Ministry
Preaching everywhere! In 2012 I spoke 42 Sundays. This year I have 38 preaching Sundays on my calendar. I’m so grateful that so many churches welcome my ministry of the Word. As I write, I’m on airplane returning from a very special weekend in Indianapolis, where I spoke at large church and was featured speaker for the annual gathering of the Indiana Ministries of the Church of God. Several hundred pastors attended.
Several other highlights have included preaching multiple weekends for North Phoenix Vineyard, The Springs in Chandler, and North Scottsdale Christian, where I’m currently teaching a Tuesday night series on the essentials of the Christian faith.
Radio. I am now regular host for Tom Brown and Koinonia on KPXQ 1360 AM in Phoenix. In September I interviewed (below) Tom Parker (Executive Director, Fuller Seminary Southwest), Dan Coker (Interim Director, Golden Gate Seminary Phoenix) and Darryl DelHousaye (President of Phoenix Seminary). Together we talked about the importance of training men and women to serve Jesus and his church. They are all good friends!
Consulting and Coaching
Helping Pastors and their Churches Professionally and Personally
Movement Day and the Ten City Covenant. This month, in New York City, I’m facilitating a panel presentation of nearly twenty key kingdom leaders from Phoenix and Tucson. We are sharing amazing God stories in Phoenix and around our state.
Cuba! I’m still trying to get there! We’ve had the trip rescheduled several times, and now it’s going to happen next spring. I’ve been invited to participate in a unique outreach to pastors in Cuba. Several of you have given generously to this outreach. Thank you!
My new Jesus+nothing book. I just released my newest book, Honey, I Just Shrunk Jesus: What Happens When Grace Isn’t Totally Amazing. You can order a copy online.
Networking Leaders/Impacting Our Community
Washington DC In July I spoke at an event sponsored by the Evangelical Immigration Table (www.evangelicalimmigrationtable.com) who called together a national gathering of evangelical leaders to appeal to Congress to pass new and just immigration laws. Below is a photo of me and my brother, who accompanied me to DC. When he saw the photo, my grandson Zack asked his dad if I was with the Vice President.
Also regarding evangelicals and conservatives favoring immigration reform, I was asked to facilitate a conversation among significant community leaders at the Glendale Chamber of Commerce. Present in the meeting were:
- Representatives from Congressmen Trent Franks’ and David Schweikert’s offices
- Dick Castner, US Chamber of Commerce
- Jack Harris, Phoenix Police Chief (retired)
- Jim Buster, Avondale City Council
- Joe Sigg, Arizona Farm Bureau
- Anna Marie Knorr, Western Growers Association
- Adam Estle, Lifebridge Community Alliance
Personal
Our Navy son Matthew, who has been stationed in Japan for the last three years, has returned to the U.S. We were with him and his family for a couple weeks in August. He is now serving in Norfolk, Virginia.
